Great Yorkshire Show The Yorkshire Agricultural Society was formed in 1837, with the aim of improving farming practices in the County. In 1838, the first Great Yorkshire Show was organised and held at Fulford. This event has since gone on to become one of the premier agricultural events in the UK. By 2002, attendance figures were reaching 125,000 visitors over the course of the three-day Show. After more than a century of moving around the County each year, the Show moved into its new and permanent home in 1951 at the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate.
Stokesley Show The inaugural meeting of the Stokesley Agricultural Society took place on 12th March 1859, at the Golden Lion Hotel in Stokesley. At this meeting it was decided that the area would benefit from an annual show with entrants limited to local residents. The first show was held later in 1859, it continues to the present day, and has only been cancelled in wartime and during the foot and mouth crisis.
