Highland Cattle: BU01430
| Smaller hardy breeds of cattle like the Highland are being reintroduced to Dales Pastures. Highland cattle have been raised in the Malham area from 1745.
A more popular breed in the Dales was "the shorthorn"; they thrived, even on the high pastures. They were dual purpose, milked well and fattened for beef. As the demand for milk increased, Friesian cows became popular.
