Royal Spa Concert Rooms: PH30-21

Pump Room, 1849: NYCRO1087
| The Royal Spa Concert Rooms & Gardens stood next to the Royal Hall and show the other things that went on at the Spa - the entertainment and relaxation were as much a part of ’the cure’ as the water treatments. It was built in 1835 by John Williams as the Royal Promenade and Cheltenham Pump Room, since the waters in the area were thought to be similar to those at Cheltenham. There were six acres of grounds including a boating lake and skating rink. The iron and glass pump room and colonnade were built in 1870, were acquired by the Corporation in 1896 and demolished in 1939. The Conference Centre now occupies this site. |
