Sadler’s Letter

Sadler and Bridle Makers letter to his wife, 1799, NYCRO1081

Like the blacksmith, the harness maker was essential to the local economy in the times when horses were used for almost all forms of transport. A horse could be ridden, used to pull a carriage, a cart, and farm machinery, or even canal barges and each of these would require a different kind of harness and reins.
