Ned Shaw, Tinsmith, Hawes: BU04729
| The tinsmith, traditionally called a whitesmith, would produce tin cylinders, boxes, containers, cups, pots, milk churns, and buckets. These would have widespread uses on the farm and in the home. The tinsmith’s craft was to create these objects from pieces of sheet tin using tools such as shears, hand snips and nippers. As tin cannot be welded, the joints were soldered together. |
