A long tradition of wood carving exists in North Yorkshire. A current and growing area of research is the vernacular styles of furniture produced in the Dales, where there are slight differences in style that can give clues to pinpoint the Dale in which the piece was made.










Pews

The ’Mouseman’ Robert Thompson is a famous furniture maker who was based in Kilburn, North Yorkshire. He started his furniture making company in 1919 and produced a wide range of furniture, from Church pews to household items in English oak, all with his trademark mouse carved somewhere on them.
